Anyone who followed Beau Allen closely probably knows that he wasn't the only D1 prospect on Minnetonka. I recently talked with James Farrow, their Junior cornerback, about his recruitment.
I updated his measureables per our conversation.
HS: So do you play any other sports besides football?
JF: I run track. I was our varsity 100m guy and I anchored the varsity 4x1 my sophomore year. I plan on making it to state in both events this up coming season.
HS: Is that 10.9 in the 100 accurate? And how are things going in the classroom?
JF: That's accurate, but i feel alot more exsplosive so i hope to see that number drop this year. As far as the classroom i finished the fall semester at around a 2.7 GPA. Minnetonka is a tough schools so i have to stay on top of things. I take the ACT in April, I'm taking prep classes for the ACT and hope to do well, Im aiming for the 22-28 range.
HS: Now to football - do you have any stats from last year?
JF: I had around 40 solo tackles, 3 picks, 1 forced fumble as well as 2 recovered fumbles on defense. I had 4 receptions for 116 yards and a TD, and 3 return TDs. I averaged 46 yards per kick return and 15 per punt return. 620 all-purpose yards.
HS: What is it like being coached by Ben Strickland?
JF: Ben is probably the most detail-oriented coach that I've had. I really look up to him as a coach, a player and most importantly as a man. He preaches the fundamentals but gets down to the little things too. The thing he preaches most is hard work. I stay in touch with him once or twice a week, and he ends every call telling me to outwork the other guys.
HS: How is it playing with Beau? Does he give you any recruiting tips?
JF: He's Beau Allen haha. Lets just say having him up front took a lot of pressure off of the rest of us. For recruiting, our situations are a little different seeing as he had an offer from Minnesota after his freshman year. One thing he always tells me is to focus on football during football season, live in the moment, worry about recruiting during the off-season. I think that helps keep things in perspective. Im exited he is going to UW though, they are definately at the top of my list, probably the 1 or 2 spot along with Minnesota.
HS: So do you have any favorites at this time?
JF: I like Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio State and Iowa right now. My Dad went to Minnesota, so I'm feeling some pressure there, but he always tells me to go where i fit best. I just visited the Gophers last week for Junior recruit Day, along with 13 other recruits. I had a good time. The basketball team ended up losing but it was a good game. I plan on camping hard this summer, definitely making it out to the Wisconsin 1 day as well as the Minnesota 1 day.
